Spillway and Outlet Works Upgrades
The state-of-the-art of estimating extreme floods is evolving as scientists learn more about climate, precipitation, runoff and floods. Periodic re-evaluation of extreme floods at existing dams can necessitate spillway capacity upgrades.
In addition, FERC relicensing of existing hydro plants has resulted in increases to flow releases from reservoirs to protect riparian habitat, fish habitat and streambed morphology. As a result many owners are now faced with the challenge of increasing the capacity of existing reservoir outlet works while maintaining project operations.
CAI provides clients with practical experience in evaluating existing spillways and outlet works, planning outlet upgrades and implementing the upgrades while the project is in operation.
